colored pencil and aluminum on wood panel and paper
Hidetaka Kaji covers the paper surface with strong strokes of colored pencils. He uses 50 to 100 colored pencils to complete a work. He sticks to completely using up his colored pencils and making the length of the colored pencils uniform. It seems, therefore, that making the length of his colored pencils uniform is as important an aspect of his creative activities as drawing itself. He selects colors either based on particular images to be expressed or based on his immediate feelings.
This work, gold on green, is inspired by a view of rice ears in the paddy fields near his home.
